Introduction Letter

Dear Parents and students,

My name is Ms. Singleton and I will be your child’s Math and Science teacher this year. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. I am fresh in my career as a teacher and with that comes high enthusiasm, passion, and optimism for my students. I am a member of the Westchester community and I have been a member of the community dating back to my very own elementary school years. As a student, I attended Kentwood elementary school as well as Westchester high school. I hold a graduate degree in special education from Cal State Los Angeles and I’m so glad to now be a teacher at Wright STEAM Magnet.

If your child is in the 7th grade then I will also be their case carrier this year. This year marks my second year at Wright. I had the privilege of meeting many of the students last year and I look forward to getting to know your child academically and personally. My role at Wright is the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Math and Science special day program teacher. If your child is a seventh grade student then I will also be in charge of your student’s IEP (Individualized Education Program). I along with all of the other SDP teachers are committed to helping your student achieve their maximum academic potential.

In addition, there will be homework assigned twice a week beginning the second week of school. Homework packets will be given on Mondays and will be due every Friday. The second homework packet will be sent home with students on Friday as a means to practice skills during the weekend. If you wish for your students to have any additional homework practice, feel free to contact me by phone or email. My email address is Starla.singleton@wrightmas.org . Lastly, I would like to express my enthusiasm for your student’s academic growth. I am happy to have your student in my class this year and I look forward to eventually meeting all parents. Please know that you are always welcome to call or visit in the class with any questions or concerns you may have.

Thank you,

Ms. Singleton

Our Fall PBL focuses on the very important issue of water conservation in California. Here is an overview of some of the work the students will be involved in for their math course as we seek out ways we can contribute to conserving water in our community.
This is our classroom! We take pride in our learning environment. In fact, we have contributed to the classroom decor by painting mathematical symbols and numbers using acrylic paint on canvas! While doing this, we reviewed many math skills and learned new math symbols and how to apply it all!
We start each day with a positive affirmation! "I am intelligent!" "I am capable!" "I like math!" "I love science!" "I am a great student!" "I love to learn new things!"
