Testing Begins Tuesday, Apr. 14th

April 10, 2015

RE: Testing

Dear Wright Middle School STEAM Parents and Scholars,

On April 14 (Tuesday), April 15 (Wednesday), and April 16 (Thursday) all scholars in grades 6 through 9 will participate in the annual Smarter Balanced Consortium Assessment (SBAC). They will use Chromebooks and iPads to complete the English Language Arts assessment on the aforementioned days. The SBAC is adaptive; that is, it will adapt to the scholar's ability as they progress through the assessment. Consequently, the length of time it will take each scholar to complete the assessment will vary. If you would like your child to take a practice assessment, please follow the steps outlined on this website -   http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sa/practicetest.asp.

Please ensure your scholar goes to bed on time so he/she is well rested on the days of the assessment. In addition, please make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast before coming to school. If your child eats breakfast at school, please encourage him/her to eat all items served on the assessment days. Furthermore, I highly recommended scholars bring a snack to have during nutrition for sustained energy throughout the testing sessions. Finally, if your child does not take the bus to school, please ensure he/she is punctual on the days of the assessment.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Ms. Jacques

Biography & Philosophy

I am so excited to join the Wright Middle School STEAM Magnet community!  Although this is my first year teaching sixth grade and at Wright, I have had the pleasure of teaching for fifteen years.  My teaching experience of grades kindergarten through fifth has given me a vast scope and sequence of the developmental and critical thinking skills that our young scholars need to acquire.

Kahlil Gibran, a Lebanese philosopher, states that "A wise teacher does not bid her students to enter the house of her wisdom, but rather leads them to the threshold of their own understanding."  I look forward to collaborating with ALL of my parents and scholars to deepen their understanding of the core standards and themselves.

ELA Weekly Compass

Tuesday, April 7, 2015

WMS Parents,

Every Monday, your scholar will be sharing with you the ELA compass for the week.  Attached to this week's compass is a parent letter that explains how the compass will be used in class to focus our instruction and how it can be used at home to keep parents informed of the weekly class assignments.

Thank you,
Ms. Jacques
