Principal'S Message
January 14, 2010

Dear Parent,

With the Fall semester coming to a close and a new semester starting in February, I want to review a few items with you regarding our commitment to your child’s education. Our staff works collaboratively to create a safe and nurturing environment for your child. In addition to providing your child with a safe environment, our goal is to provide a standards’ based instructional program that builds on your child’s skills and abilities. Quality learning takes place in a school climate in which children feel safe, supported and free of intimidation.

At Orville Wright Middle/Math, Science Technology Magnet, we are committed to providing a safe and civil learning environment. We do not tolerate bullying or any behavior that infringes on the safety or well-being of students or interferes with learning. Our goal is to encourage all students and personnel to promote mutual respect, tolerance, and acceptance among students and staff.

Occasionally, a student has reported that they are uncomfortable, or have felt intimidated or bullied. Our faculty, counselors and staff deal quickly with any incidents of intimidation, bullying and/or hazing and work to stop any of these behaviors. We do not tolerate these incidents.

Bullying takes many forms including the infliction of emotional, physical, or psychological distress. Bullying can be social; racial/ethnic/religious; sexual; verbal, etc. Our goal is create an environment in which bullying is not tolerated.

We would appreciate it if you can speak with your child about these issues. Since the mid-year is almost here, we would like all of our students to review the school rules in the Agenda Book. In addition, we have a caring and nurturing staff at Orville Wright. If you and/or your child wish to speak with us about any issues that your child has, we will appreciate your input. We thank you for your help and support at Orville Wright Middle School.

Sincerely,

Jim Stapleton
